abstract = {One of the most complex aspects of autonomous driving concerns understanding the surrounding environment. In particular, the interest falls on detecting which agents are populating it and how they are moving. The capacity to predict how these may act in the near future would allow an autonomous vehicle to safely plan its trajectory, minimizing the risks for itself and others. In this work we propose an automatic trajectory annotation method exploiting an Iterative Plane Registration algorithm based on homographies and semantic segmentations. The output of our technique is a set of holistic trajectories (past-present-future) paired with a single image context, useful to train a predictive model.},

abstract = {Video stream compression, using lossy algorithms, is performed to reduce the bandwidth required for transmission. To improve the video quality, either for human view or for automatic video analysis, videos are post-processed to eliminate the introduced compression artifacts. Generative Adversarial Network have been shown to obtain extremely high quality results in image enhancement tasks; however, to obtain top quality results high capacity large generators are usually employed, resulting in high computational costs and processing time. In this paper we present an architecture that can be used to reduce the cost of generators, paving a way towards real-time frame enhancement with GANs. With the proposed approach, enhanced images appear natural and pleasant to the eye. Locally high frequency patterns often differ from the raw uncompressed images. A possible application is to improve video conferencing, or live streaming. In these cases there is no original uncompressed video stream available. Therefore, we report results using popular no-reference metrics showing high naturalness and quality even for efficient networks.},

abstract = {Video compression algorithms result in a reduction of image quality, because of their lossy approach to reduce the required bandwidth. This affects commercial streaming services such as Netflix, or Amazon Prime Video, but affects also video conferencing and video surveillance systems. In all these cases it is possible to improve the video quality, both for human view and for automatic video analysis, without changing the compression pipeline, through a post-processing that eliminates the visual artifacts created by the compression algorithms. Generative Adversarial Networks have obtained extremely high quality results in image enhancement tasks; however, to obtain such results large generators are usually employed, resulting in high computational costs and processing time. abstract = {3D face reconstruction from a single 2D image is a fundamental Computer Vision problem of extraordinary difficulty. Statistical modeling techniques, such as the 3D Morphable Model (3DMM), have been widely exploited because of their capability of reconstructing a plausible model grounding on the prior knowledge of the facial shape. However, most of these techniques derive an approximated and smooth reconstruction of the face, without accounting for fine-grained details. In this work, we propose an approach based on a Conditional Generative Adversarial Network (CGAN) for refining the coarse reconstruction provided by a 3DMM. The latter is represented as a three channels image, where the pixel intensities represent the depth, curvature and elevation values of the 3D vertices. The architecture is an encoder–decoder, which is trained progressively, starting from the lower-resolution layers; this technique allows a more stable training, which leads to the generation of high quality outputs even when high-resolution images are fed during the training. Experimental results show that our method is able to produce reconstructions with fine-grained realistic details and lower reconstruction errors with respect to the 3DMM. A cross-dataset evaluation also shows that the network retains good generalization capabilities. Finally, comparison with state-of-the-art solutions evidence competitive performance, with comparable or lower error in most of the cases, and a clear improvement in the quality of the generated models.},

Statistical modeling techniques, such as the 3D Morphable Model (3DMM), have been widely employed because of their capability of reconstructing a plausible model grounding on the prior knowledge of the facial shape. However, most of them derive a and smooth approximation of the real shape, without accounting for the surface details. abstract = {Recent advances in visual media technology have led to new tools for processing and, above all, generating multimedia contents. In particular, modern AI-based technologies have provided easy-to-use tools to create extremely realistic manipulated videos. Such synthetic videos, named Deep Fakes, may constitute a serious threat to attack the reputation of public subjects or to address the general opinion on a certain event. According to this, being able to individuate this kind of fake information becomes fundamental. In this work, a new forensic technique able to discern between fake and original video sequences is given; unlike other state-of-the-art methods which resorts at single video frames, we propose the adoption of optical flow fields to exploit possible inter-frame dissimilarities. Such a clue is then used as feature to be learned by CNN classifiers. Preliminary results obtained on FaceForensics++ dataset highlight very promising performances.},

abstract = {Weather forecasting is a logical process that consists in evaluating the predictions provided by a set of stochastic models, compare these and take a conclusion about the weather in a given area and a given interval of time. Meteorological forecasting provides reliable predictions about the weather within a given interval of time. The automation of the forecasting process would be helpful in a number of contexts. For instance, when forecasting about underpopulated or small geographic areas is out of the human forecasters' tasks but is central, e.g., for tourism. In this paper, we start to deal with these challenging tasks by developing a defeasible reasoner for meteorological forecasting, which we evaluate against a real-world example with applications to tourism and holiday planning.},

abstract = {Text normalisation is an important task in the context of Natural Language Processing. By normalisation, free text is mapped into dictionaries, i.e. indexed collections of locutions recognised as typical of a particular jaergon. In general, technical dictionaries are difficult to build and validate. They are typically constructed by hand on the basis of everyday human work and they are agreement-based. This is indubitably time consuming and the approach requires a strong human supervision and does not provide a general methodology. In this paper, we perform the first steps towards the to automatic building of a dictionary for Italian journalistic lexicon, called NewsDict, based on sub dictionaries able to characterise main topics occurring in newspaper articles. We exploit a dataset of annotated documents from some Italian newspapers and a statistical techniques based on the Mutual Information Principle. Documents contains information such as the release date and the topic of the article and has been directly annotated by the author. To check the accuracy of the dictionary we built, we develop an initial test. We normalise a control set of journal article into NewsDict. Crossing results presented in this paper against the human annotation, we provide a fist measure of performances of the described methodology.},

Every producer of contents that is interested in interacting on social networks and in general on digital news platforms is interested in actively collaborating with the semantic communities that exist about the topics she produces. In general, moreover, a content producer is interested in fostering communities, mainly because this will generate a higher interest on her contents. In this paper, we illustrate an architecture of a system able to support and manage semantic communities in the framework of a project for digital news delivering. abstract = {This paper is a proposition of methodological and technological approaches that try to constitute a framework that introduces modern artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for decision-making in the adaptive re- use of cultural heritage (CH) processes. The research aims to accelerate and improve the quality of adaptive CH re-use. The complexity of the problem derives from some causes of different nature: lack of attention to this problem from the public administration and private investors; decision-making processes complicated by the need to connect with experts, located in different countries. Most professionals, related to the CH management, cannot access detailed data about already existing successful initiatives. The specific objective and goal of the research is the creation of an AI framework and eco-system for supporting the development and implementation of innovative business and governance models to fill up the investment gap in the adaptive re-use practices. The paper shortly describes the first steps for creating a platform designed and developed to assist and advice public entities, networked experts, private entrepreneurs and citizens in actions aiming at the valorisation of the historic and CH asset and its integration in different groups of countries to boost growth, job opportunities and social benefits, under overall sustainability constraints. The technical solutions here adopted are based on convergent methodology and networked expertise (e-expertise) technology, open data models and active knowledge extraction and processing, machine learning, collective intelligence, recommendation systems and predictive analytics, CH adaptive re-use, innovation business, and models and case-based reasoning methods. Examples of case studies giving the inception for the project components are given.},

abstract = {Video compression algorithms have been designed aiming at pleasing human viewers, and are driven by video quality metrics that are designed to account for the capabilities of the human visual system. However, thanks to the advances in computer vision systems more and more videos are going to be watched by algorithms, e.g. implementing video surveillance systems or performing automatic video tagging. This paper describes an adaptive video coding approach for computer vision-based systems. We show how to control the quality of video compression so that automatic object detectors can still process the resulting video, improving their detection performance, by preserving the elements of the scene that are more likely to contain meaningful content. Our approach is based on computation of saliency maps exploiting a fast objectness measure. The computational efficiency of this approach makes it usable in a real-time video coding pipeline. Experiments show that our technique outperforms standard H.265 in speed and coding efficiency, and can be applied to different types of video domains, from surveillance to web videos.},

abstract = {Autonomous driving is becoming a reality, yet vehicles still need to rely on complex sensor fusion techniques to fully understand the scene they act in. Being able to discern the static environment from the dynamic entities that populate it, will improve scene comprehension algorithms and will pose constraints to the reasoning process about moving objects. With this in mind, we propose a scene comprehension task aimed at providing a complete understanding of the static surroundings, with a particular attention to road layout. In order to cut to the bare minimum the sensor requirements to be deployed on-board, we solely rely on semantic segmentation masks, which can be reliably obtained with computer vision algorithms from any RGB source. We cast this problem as an inpainting task based on a Generative Adversarial Network model to remove all dynamic objects from the scene and focus on understanding its static components such as streets, sidewalks and buildings. We evaluate this task on a synthetically generated dataset obtained with the CARLA simulator, demonstrating the effectiveness of our method.},
