
Giuseppe De Pietro is a Full Professor of Computer Science and the Director of the Department of Information Science and Technologies at Pegaso Digital University. He is an Associate Researcher at the Institute for High-Performance Computing and Networking – CNR. He was previously an Adjunct Professor at the College of Science and Technology at Temple University in Philadelphia and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Naples Federico II.
From September 2014 to March 2024, he served as the Institute for High-Performance Computing and Networking Director at the CNR. He has also been a consultant for the Ministry for Reforms and Innovations in Public Administration, defining strategies for disseminating new information and communication technologies in e-government. Additionally, he has served as an expert for the Ministry for Economic Development, specializing in precompetitive research and development for evaluating technological innovation projects in areas such as architecture and processing systems, office automation, computer networks, and software engineering. He was also a member of the bilateral commission DigitPA – CNR and the bilateral commission between DigitPA and CNR for technological innovation and e-government processes. He was an Italian member of the e-Infrastructure Reflection Group and an expert appointed by the Italian Ministry of Research to plan European research networks.
He served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Future Artificial Intelligence Research (FAIR) Foundation, eHealthNet Scarl, and PM4Care Scarl. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Regional Technological District Databenc Scarl.
His research primarily focuses on artificial intelligence, particularly machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing (NLP). These areas find applications in decision support systems in the medical field and virtual and augmented reality. He has actively participated in many European and national projects, including industrial collaborations. He coordinates the European SMART BEAR and AI4HEALTHSEC projects under Horizon 2020. He has authored over 250 scientific articles published in international journals and conferences. Additionally, he serves as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence.”
